About This Adventure
You don’t need a whole day to fall completely in love with Madeira, but you do need to get off the standard tourist trail. This half-day expedition is designed for those who want to feel the true pulse of the island, trading the crowded tour buses for the crisp mountain air and the thrill of an open-top Land Rover. We will take you from the bustling streets of Funchal straight into a landscape of deep valleys, sheer cliffs, and hidden villages that feel like they have been frozen in time. Itinerary
We pick you up directly from your hotel or a nearby spot in Funchal and immediately head upwards into the clouds. Our first major destination is the legendary Curral das Freiras, a jaw-dropping village nestled deep inside a volcanic crater where the sheer mountain walls rise up on every side, offering a glimpse into how isolated and beautiful life on this island used to be.
Next, we pull up to the spectacular Boca dos Namorados viewpoint, standing high above the valley to give you a true bird's-eye perspective of the jagged peaks. From here, the asphalt disappears as we shift into four-wheel drive and dive onto a rugged mountain dirt track, letting you experience the wild, untouched nature of the interior up close.
After the dust of the trail, we make a quick stop at a true local tavern to wash it down with a glass of authentic, freshly made Poncha, the traditional drink that fuels the island. Feeling warm and energized, we head straight to the famous Cabo Girão, where you will step out onto the glass skywalk suspended 580 meters above the crashing Atlantic waves for a view that will take your breath away.
Our final stop brings us down to the coast to the colorful, historic fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, famous for its bobbing traditional boats and immortalized by Winston Churchill's paintings. We will wander the vibrant harbor streets and soak in the sea breeze before heading back to Funchal, leaving you with a camera full of photos and a heart full of memories just in time for lunch.
